This dynamic presentation will discuss the evolution of the consumer, the current and future direction of  consumer spending habits, the future direction of the overall legwear category , changing retail landscape and the importance of understanding how to better market to consumers.

This session will provide an overview on the impact that consumer product safety laws, chemical controls, testing standards and customs issues has on the global flow of the legwear products.

This interactive session will be facilitated by Rich Stober and Yiren Sun. It will focus on the afternoon’s conference topics, issues and concerns that are shared among the group.  The goal is to identify ways in which THA can develop platforms to address these needs and/or develop programs that offer assistance.

Rich Stober is the division president of the Legwear and Active Energy division of Accessory Exchange.

Accessory Exchange is a NYC based company that is 101 years old. AE's core business is fashion handbags and small leather goods and supplies major department stores, chain store and mass retailers. AE produces and supplies license product under, Isaac Mizrahi, xoxo, U.S. Polo Assn, and many others.
Rich joined Accessory Exchange in July of 2008 to create a private label Legwear division. That business unit grew with customers in department stores, chain stores, sporting goods stores and mass. The Active Energy division was formed with the acquisitions of the license for Crocs, Kswiss and Flow Society. Active Energy brands supply's hats, bags, socks, shoe laces, umbrellas, luggage, and many other accessories under their license arrangements and currently ships to over 28 countries.
Rich has been in the hosiery industry for over 16 years with companies that include GoldToeMoretz, Moretz, International Hosiery, and Ellis Hosiery Rich lives in Hickory North Carolina with his wife and 3 children.
 
 
Martin Y.R. Sun is engaged in the work of socks & hosiery industry more than forty years.
Currently he is the President of Shanghai EIKO Textile Co., Ltd.
Chairman of China Socks & Hosiery Professional Committee of China Knitting Industrial Association.
 
Vice president of Shanghai Underwear Industry Association.
 
And he was appointed general manager of Shanghai Vocal Enterprise Co. Ltd. & Director of Sara Lee Corporation Branded Apparel - China.

Sally F. Kay is president and CEO of The Hosiery Association. With an employment history expanding beyond 22 years, Sally has experienced first-hand the vast amount of change which has transpired within the global legwear industry. Some of her key responsibilities include the industry’s official spokesperson and leader, media relations and publicity expert, government and legislative liaison, and retailer liaison. Additionally, she is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Association.

Sally has authored numerous legwear articles for business and trade publications worldwide. She is regularly interviewed/quoted in Women’s Wear Daily, The Wall Street Journal, Glamour Magazine, USA Today, Allure Magazine, Accessories Magazine, O Magazine, Textile Insights, Body Magazine, Intima Magazine and various other media outlets. She has appeared on “Fox News Rising” morning TV show, CNBC’s “The American Entrepreneur,” and the “Today Show.”
In addition to presenting making industry presentations around the world, Sally is a member of the Cotton Board, the National Association of Manufacturer (NAM)’s Council of Manufacturing Associations, the US Department of Commerce ITAC-13 advisory group for textile and apparel related products. Working closely with NC State University’s College of Textiles, Sally serves as an advisor to and presenter for the Guest Lecturer Series addressing legwear business and fashion trends.
Sally resides with her family in Charlotte, NC. Hobbies include riding and showing horses, snow skiing and creative writing.
 
 
EDWARD STEINER is Senior Director, Trade and Legislative Affairs, for Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., resident in the Washington, D.C., office. Mr. Steiner has over 10 years’ experience in the fields of public policy and international trade and development.
He consults for a diverse client base of private industry, trade associations and foreign governments on a wide range of trade compliance issues, including consumer product safety, food safety, environmental protection and labor standards. Mr. Steiner represents clients before Congress and executive branch agencies and provides them with strategies for advancing their administrative and legislative objectives.

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Steiner worked for over six years on Capitol Hill. In his last position he served as legislative director to Rep. Loretta Sanchez, where he was responsible for managing her legislative portfolio and overseeing legislative staff. He also developed and implemented Chairwoman Sanchez’s agenda for the Border, Maritime and Global Counterterrorism Subcommittee of the House Homeland Security Committee, helping to draft such legislation as the SAFE Ports Act. In his post as legislative assistant for foreign affairs for Rep. Sam Farr, Mr. Steiner handled issues such as foreign operations appropriations, trade legislation and tax provisions. He also has extensive experience in international assistance, having worked for development agencies in Kosovo and Guatemala as well as the World Bank and the U.S. Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C. Mr. Steiner is fluent in Spanish, French and Swedish.
 
 
Marshal Cohen chief industry analyst of The NPD Group, Inc., is a nationally known expert on consumer behavior and the retail industry. He has followed retail trends for more than thirty years, at NPD and as the head of leading fashion and apparel manufacturers as well as major retailers. As part of his work at NPD, Marshal leads many top firms in long range and strategic planning sessions. He often utilizes motivational presentations to help launch corporate goals and kick-off meetings. Marshal is the author of two books, Why Customers Do What They Do (2006) and Buy Me! How to Get Customers to Choose Your Products and Ignore the Rest (2010).
In addition to his duties at NPD, Marshal is on several boards of both, manufacturers and industry associations. Marshal is currently a guest lecturer at North Carolina State University, School of Textiles. There he is introducing students and faculty to techniques for analyzing and applying data. Recently, Marshal has been a guest lecturer at the Wharton School of Business, the Fashion Institute of Technology, and Savannah College of Art and Design. Marshal has also been twice named to the Footwear News Power 100 list.

Marshal is also a regular contributor to many major media outlets. He is frequently quoted in publications like The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Women’s Wear Daily. Additionally, he appears on various television news programs including “Today,” “Good Morning America,” “CBS Sunday Morning,” and is a regular guest on Bloomberg TV and Radio. He is also a sought after speaker at key industry events such as MAGIC and Sourcing at MAGIC, The Fairchild CEO Summits, The National Retail Federation’s (NRF) Annual Convention and The American Apparel and Footwear Association’s (AAFA) Annual Convention.
Since joining NPD in 1999, Marshal has held a variety of positions analyzing and interpreting NPD’s uniquely combined consumer and point-of-sale tracking services for the apparel and footwear industries. His career began in the training program at Bloomingdale’s, where he worked his way up to merchandise manager. From there, he became president of WilliWear and subsequently president of Stanley Blacker. He was also founder, owner and president of Motive Marketing Group.
